After just three days, I’ve had to really think about this series. How much effort am I going to make to share what connections come to jobs for the word? What if nothing comes? Do I read the entomology? Do I read how it is used in a sentence? I decided that I get to do whatever I please, because I’m the one writing the entry.
So, impromptu made me think about how uncomfortable I am with extemporaneous speaking. But why? I always like to plan what I’m going to say, even if it’s a 30 second welcome. I am always afraid that if I don’t plan in advance, I’ll forget to mention some vital piece of information. Funny thing is, advance for my neurodivergent brain is not what other people think of as advance. My advance is sometimes 30 minutes before the moment, depending on the occasion. I will say that as I’ve gotten older and more seasoned, I’ve also learned to trust myself and know that whatever comes to mind is what’s meant to be said.
